All seniors in Mrs. Price’s English IV classes interviewed family members in order to discover more of their family histories. The seniors, then, wrote profile essays using the interviews that they conducted. Additionally, many seniors chose to participate in The Great Listen sponsored by StoryCorp, and these seniors used the StoryCorps app to record their interviews. Students could choose to have their interviews archived in the Library of Congress’ American Folklife Center. Through the interview process, students learned more about their parents, grandparents, and others who have a strong impact on these seniors’ lives. One senior, Vincent Soldano, interviewed his grandfather about his grandfather’s adventures growing up in Honduras, and Vincent has shared the audio interview.
The Great Listen is a way to preserve the voices and stories of an entire generation of Americans. StoryCorp is an American non-profit organization whose mission is to record, preserve, and share the stories of Americans from all backgrounds and beliefs. StoryCorps grew out of Sound Portraits Productions as a project founded in 2003 by radio producer David Isay.
