Brother Martin High School held the 23nd Annual Fishing Rodeo on Saturday, June 3 in the Backyard at school. It was a beautiful, warm day for Alumni, families, and friends of Brother Martin as more than 40 teams competed for awards in 15 various categories.
Rob Hymel entertained the crowd with music as Eddie Gonzales ’77 served as the emcee. Younger fishermen competed in a fish toss directed by Billy Thiele ’78. The Class of 1981 Cooking Team provided delicious fried fish, burgers, fries, jambalaya, and snowballs.
Jack Krebs ’23 caught the largest fish by a current Brother Martin student. BSpell Paint and Faux Pas Prints provided the awards. The Brother Martin Cheerleaders sold “Big Board Raffle” spots, as well as a Parade of Prizes consisting of gift cards, Brother Martin items, fishing gear, and more. Members of the Advancement and Alumni Relations Office along with a team of volunteers ensured a successful event.
Prior to the Fishing Rodeo, the Captain’s Party was hosted at Causeway Bar & Grill in Metairie to kick off the event. Fishermen and guests were able to register while enjoying complimentary food and beverages.
