Congratulations to the 2018 Brother Martin Tennis District Champions! The Crusaders, under the leadership of first-year Head Coach Lee MacAlester, defeated Jesuit 6-1 yesterday, in front of a big group of fans. The team and Coach appreciate all the support from parents, students, teachers, and administration. The Crusaders began the day by winning three out of four matches in Singles play. At Line 2 Singles, Matthew Armbruster won 8-2. Ethan Bosch defeated his Singles opponent 8-3 on Line 3. On line 4, Chris Russo won a hard-fought contest 8-6. This set the stage for Doubles. All the Crusaders needed to do was win one of the remaining three Doubles matches.
The District Championship was clinched when Line 3 Doubles partners, Sterling Heindel / Evan Walker overcame a 3-2 deficit by winning six straight games to win 8-3. Even though the Crusaders had won the title, they still wanted to finish strong. Soon afterward, Ben Chanes / Matthew Armbruster (Line 1) and Hunter Kael / Jack Robinson (Line 2) both won their Doubles by the same scores of 8-6.
The Tennis team continues into the Regional Tournament with an undefeated record of 10-0! The Regional Tournament will be on Monday, April 16 until Tuesday, April 17 held at the City Park Tennis Center off Marconi. Come out and cheer on your Crusaders!
