2018 Bowling, Golf, and Tennis Convocation

DSC_0038On Monday, May 7, the Brother Martin Athletics Department hosted their annual convocation in the Brother Mark Thornton Terrace honoring the team and individual accomplishments for Bowling, Golf, and Tennis.  Head Coaches Bruce Himbert ’78 of Bowling, Ron Brisbi ’67 SA of Golf, and Lee MacAlester, Jr. of Tennis spoke on behalf of their respective programs.

In bowling, the Crusaders finished the 2017-2018 season with an undefeated record of 14-0 and claiming the District, Regional, and State Championship titles! What an outstanding season for our Crusader bowling team! Individually, junior Cody Schaffer was named the top average bowler in the state of Louisiana.

In golf, the Crusaders returned to the state championship after advancing through District and qualifying for Regionals and State. The golf team finished up with a 15-5 record and placed 6th overall in the state championship. On the first day of the state tournament, the Crusaders shot a 311 as a team and were led by Zaire Stevenson with a remarkably low score of 74. On the second day, the team shot a total score of 321 and were led by Sport Faust with a 75.

The tennis team had a remarkable and historical year for Brother Martin Athletics! The tennis team clinched the district and regional championship titles, with an undefeated record, and placed runner-up in the state championship! The team was undefeated through the state meet but came up short to fellow Brothers of the Sacred Heart school, Catholic High School, for the state title. Doubles teams of Ben Chanes/Matthew Armbruster, Hunter Kael/Jack Robinson, and Sterling Heindel/Evan Walker plus Singles players Chris Russo and Ethan Bosch all contributed to the total of 9 team points.
