2017 Track and Field Convocation
The Athletics Department hosted the Track and Field convocation last week in the Tom and Gayle Benson Mall celebrating the accomplishments of the season. Track and Field head coach Brad Duplechain and his coaching staff hosted over 100 athletes and their families at the event. Coach Duplechain also addressed the crowd informing guests of highlights from the school year. This season of track and field saw two school records fall during the indoor season, an indoor state individual champion in the 3200 meter run, and a school record broken during the outdoor season in fantastic fashion. At the LSU Indoor Classic, Hunter Appleton ’19 set a new indoor 1600 meter school record by posting a time of 4:30.34. The 4 x 800 meter relay team consisting of Reid Kern ‘17, Ethan Meydrich ‘18, Hunter Appleton ‘19, and Hayden Courregé ‘18 broke the school record twice during the indoor season. They first broke the 22 year old record in a qualifying meet, then broke their own record by running a time of 8:18.74 on their way to a second place finish at the State Indoor Championships. In the 3200 meter run at the Indoor State Championships, teammates Hunter Appleton and Hayden Courregé both made the podium, with Hunter placing first and Hayden placing third. In addition, at the State Outdoor Championships, the Crusaders were represented by Justin Runnels in the Shot Put (fourth place), Jackson Anuskiewicz in the 800 meter run, Hunter Appleton in the 3200 meter run (second place), and Hayden Courregé in the 1600 and 3200 meter runs (fourth place in both). Hunter Appleton set a new school record in the 3200 meter run with a time of 9:18.64, breaking a 22 year old record.
