2017 Football Convocation

 046The annual convocation held last week marked an end to the Crusader 2016 football season. Family and friends of the football program came together to honor the 2016 state semi-finalist football team. Both Coach Sal Brocato ’88 and ninth grade coach Malcolm Robinson highlighted their respective junior high teams’ season accomplishments. Then, varsity head coach Mark Bonis rounded out the evening highlighting the team and the individual accomplishments. Especially noted were seniors Bruce Jordan Swilling and Jeremy Singleton who received their jerseys for being a leading rusher and a leading receiver on the gridiron. Bruce was recognized as an all-time leading rusher in the history of Brother Martin.  He finished his career with a total of 5,825 yards, 5,393 of those yards having been recorded on the ground.  The four year starter accounted for 87 touchdowns during his time on the gridiron, 83 by rushing and four by receiving.  Committed to Georgia Tech, he was also the first and only US Army All- American selection who finished the game with six tackles. Also, Jeremy was recognized as an all- time leading receiver. He led all WRs in the most amount of passes caught in a season which was 50 and 170 in his career. The starter had 993 yards gained while receiving and 16 touchdowns this past season. He is committed to University of Houston.  Thank you to our parents for an incredible season!
