What a way to end Homecoming Week…an awesome pep rally, an afternoon of outdoor food and fun, a great football win against an undefeated Archbishop Rummel Raiders, and a wonderful Homecoming Dance at the Mercedes Benz Superdome! What more could a Crusader want?!
Coach Justin Franks started off the pep rally with the Crusader spirit sword ‘sway’… and senior Ben Wisniewski took the reigns as Student Council President to begin what proved to be an awesome celebration for our Senior Football Players and the Homecoming Court!
In celebration of athletic tradition, coach Barry Hebert ‘71 talked about the 1971 State Champion Football and Cross Country teams. That year-1971- Brother Martin won both State Championships on the same day! Coach Hebert introduced several players from both the 1971 teams who were in attendance at the pep rally. He also encouraged the students and the faculty to support both teams as the 2016 football and cross country teams continue to push their way to the top.
The senior football players were introduced to much pomp and circumstance and dance. Seniors Pattre’en Hughes, Vejon Wallis, and Daryl Anderson danced; Tre Swilling, Jeremy Singleton, and Bruce Jordan jumped into the wall of seniors; Sam Walters flipped his way out; and Matthew Clapp stumbled his way to much applause. Other football seniors introduced included Somon Anderson, Drew Benitez, Matthew Beninate, Paul Boudreaux, Dominic Brocato, Cameron Duplantier, Jonathan Falgoust, William Fulham, Mark Gittelson, Blane Guillory, Alex Hassinger, Brandon Hebert, Nicholas Klemm, Les Levy, Jr., Ashton Merrett, Jens Nielsen III, Drew Ramon, Rory Rousset, Justin Runnels, Jason Sumich, Roderick Thornton, Dylan Walker, and Patrick Willis.
The Crusader band and cheerleaders punctuated the moments with great displays of amazing musicianship and tumbling! The Crusader drumline showed off their superior rhythm in a singular performance. Coach Bill Gallagher, once again, lent himself to rally the crowds, and the students section responded in kind with loud whooping and hollering.
Then, the Homecoming Court was introduced. Madeline Christenberry, Jamie Hanzo, Madison LaCoste, Emily Malter, Andrea Palmer, and Shelby Villarrubia. The formal presentation of the Homecoming Court would take place during half-time of the football game that evening at Tad Gormley, at which time the Homecoming Queen would be announced.
What a joyous occasion for the entire Crusader family! Go ‘Saders!
