2015 Student Minister Training

P1070040The goal of the Student Ministers is to open the hearts of all members of the Brother Martin community to the charism of the Brothers of the Sacred Heart and to the mission of the school.

In preparation for their ministry, 22 of the Student Ministers attended a workshop at St. Stanislaus in Bay St. Louis July 14th through 17th. Over the span of three nights and four days, these seniors bonded with one another and with students from other schools from within the Brothers of the Sacred Heart Province. Other schools that participated included Catholic High School, E.D. White High School, and Vandebilt Catholic. Participants were also involved in service activities such as cleaning the Brothers’ cemetery, assisting with campus maintenance, and working with outside agencies. Students also enjoyed the beauty of the St. Stanislaus campus during recreational time. The Student Ministry workshop concluded with a commissioning Mass where new ministers received the Student Ministry shirts and pins.

Those students who could not attend the workshop at St. Stanislaus participated in a makeup workshop at Brother Martin on Saturday, August 15th. These students engaged in a day of preparation for campus leadership. Mr. Baier and Mr. Songy lead the workshop with exercises in reflection and training.  These experiences provided participants with the knowledge and understanding for the role of Student Minister. These group exercises revealed both the joys and challenges of being a Student Minister. Senior Dillon Connick stated: “The workshop really opened my eyes to the importance of my faith life.” At the conclusion of the day, the newly trained Student Ministers were given their Student Ministry shirts and pins.  During their commissioning Mass, their hands were anointed with chrism oil, and they opened themselves up to their ministry at Brother Martin High School.
