The Crusaders pulled out a thrilling 73-72 overtime win, with a furious second-half comeback after trailing by 14 at halftime and 8 at the end of the third. As soon as the extra period began, Jabbar Singleton, who finished with 14 points, drained a 3-pointer from the top of the key to give Brother Martin its first lead at 69-66. With just under a minute remaining, after the teams traded baskets, Karr center forced a jump ball, giving possession back to the Cougars. On the next possession Karr hit a jumper to pull within one. On Brother Martin’s ensuing possession, Karr’s defense picked off a pass up the sideline and scored the put-back basket after a missed breakaway layup by Karr giving them a 72-71 lead with just 15 seconds remaining. The Crusaders calmly got the ball in the hands of Gray on the baseline and drawing two defenders, dumped the ball to Jordan Lumpkins for the game winning score.
The varsity wrestling 2nd team won the varsity Thomas Jefferson Invitational. The Crusaders scored 195 points and placed six in the championship finals. David Drago, Jordan Giroir & Aaron Gambino all took home individual titles. Kyle Dunn, Jacob Maza & Jordan Soileau finished as runner-ups. The team will host the Trey Culotta Invitational on Friday and Saturday in the Conlin Gym.
The varsity soccer team traveled to Chalmette on Saturday to face the Owls in a district match. After a strong defensive performance, the Crusaders were able to defeat the Owls by a score of 4-0. This is the eighth clean sheet for the Crusader this season and gives the Crusaders a record of 10-0. Brother Martin will play its next match against Grace King this Wednesday at 3:30 @ Farley Field.
