A Saturday of New Orleans History

IMG_0023On Saturday, September 27, juniors from Mr. Vicknair’s U.S. History classes took a field trip to the French Quarter to tour the Cabildo. The Cabildo, located next to St. Louis Cathedral in Jackson Square, gave the students a deeper insight into the history of Louisiana. Several artifacts from Louisiana’s history were on display in the museum, such as the cotton gin, the original marker for the city of New Orleans, and the death mask of Napoleon. After touring the museum, the group took a Friends of the Cabildo walking tour through the French Quarter to get more insight on the rich history of the city of New Orleans. The tour led students through the quarter, where they learned about the histories of many New Orleans landmarks, such as the Old Ursuline Convent and the New Orleans Mint.
