Sophomore and Junior School Liturgy

This week the sophomores and juniors had their grade level liturgies. Blessed Brother Louis M. Couvillon, S.C. homily was about the crest of Brother Martin and making sure that the students understood the message behind the crest. Brother talked about how the crest symbolizes the Crusader spirit and the history behind the crest. He then took every symbol on the crest and explained the symbolic meaning behind each one. The crest which is a shield is derived into four sections by the cross of Christ. The top left corner has the heart which represents the Brothers of the Sacred Heart and recalls their ministry of 142 years in New Orleans. The Fleur de Lis in the lower left corner represents the French heritage of the city of New Orleans. The torch in the bottom right corner symbolizes striving for excellence and the book in the top right corner represents learning. The liturgy then moved on to the Eucharist and this was a special time where the students could receive the body and blood of Christ for the first time as a class this year. The 7th, 8th, and 9th graders will have their liturgies next week and the seniors have their ring mass tonight at 7 p.m. at St. Dominic.
