Making a statement in their second major meet of the season, Brother Martin’s track and field team dominated the boys’ events at the Crusader Relays on Friday, March 13.

Victorious in six of the meet’s 16 events at Tad Gormley Stadium, the host school tallied 155 points, nearly doubling those of second- place Jesuit’s 84 points. Newman placed third with 54 points among the 10 participating schools.

While the majority of Brother Martin’s scoring came from running events, some notable field performances added 37 points to the team's score.

Among the highlights of the meet was the record-breaking performance of the Crusaders’ 400-meter relay team anchored by sprint specialist Easton Royal ‘27. The four-man exchange crew of Gaines Randol ‘27, Owen Moller ‘27, Patrick Jones ‘27, and Royal rewrote the school's former record of 42.32 by winning the event in 42.03.

Moller’s contribution was one of three first-place efforts by the Crusader. He started the meet by winning the long jump with a best of 22-7½ feet. He also ran a leg on the winning 1,600-meter relay team. And the relays proved to be among the Crusaders' forte events.

Running a leg of the four-lap event, Moller joined Carson Kenney ‘26, Dale “Alex” Zauner ‘26, and anchor Andrew Dyson ‘27 in crossing the finish line first in the 1,600-meter relay with a time of 3:35.93.

And the foursome of Mason Boh ‘29, Caleb Farrae ‘29, William Havnen ‘29, and Aiden Kane ‘27 added ten more points to the Crusaders’ total with a first-place finish in the 3,200-meter relay, stopping the clock at 9:00.5.

Members of the state runner-up cross country team were also key contributors to Coach Brad Duplechain’s winning team.

William Lionnet ‘26 won the 1600-meter run in 4:27.08, and Anders Maitrejean ‘26 followed with a first-place time of 9:39.50 in the eight-lap 3,200-meter event, followed by runner-up Daniel Bonilla ‘28. In finishing among the top six runners, Evan Galliano ‘27 and Carson Mills ‘28 added extra points to the team total.

In other notable contributions, Kenneth Holmes’ ‘27 distance of 44-feet, 2-inch shot put added second-place points while Louis Desobry IV was runner-up in the 300-meter hurdles, and the 800-meter sprint medley team of Gaines Randol, Easton Royal, Dale Alex Zauner, and Daniel Bonilla was also runners-up.

Mount Carmel’s team was the high-point scorers in the girls’ events, totaling 195 points. Newman (73 points) placed second, and Academy of the Sacred Heart (57) edged Archbishop Chapelle (56) for third place.
