Brother Martin athletes, whose performances contributed greatly to the success of the school’s interscholastic sports recognition in fall sports, received special recognition by both statewide and local media factions.

In mid-December, junior wide receiver Easton Royal '27 was named to the Louisiana High School Athletic Association’s Class 5A All-State Football team, for his outstanding contributions to the Crusaders’ winning season.

The All-State selections were based on statistical information provided to the Louisiana Sports Writers Association by area media representatives on the selection committee at the end of the playoff period. The LSWA, a select panel of sports writers who cover high school athletics in Louisiana, has bestowed honors to elite athletes since 1953, when the association was formed.

Royal earned his spot for his achievements as a pass receiver and return specialist. The 6-1, 195-pound junior was perhaps the finest in District 9-5A. He was on the receiving end of 61 passes, totaling 1,254 yards and 15 touchdowns.

Although opponents most often chose to kick away from his side of the field, Royal still returned kickoffs for 239 yards and punts for an additional 233 yards. The talented underclassmen added another 190 yards on designed runs.

The District 9-5A cross country runner-up cross country team, which was also the state’s Division I second-place team, received individual honors when five of its members joined the New Orleans area’s best on the All-Metro Boys’ Cross Country Team, announced on Jan. 3.

Selected by the Times-Picayune, the team is selected by the times recorded at the LHSAA state meet.

The honored Crusaders include Daniel Bonilla ‘28, Anders Maitrejean ‘26, Caleb Carmouche ‘27, William Lionnet ‘26, and Carson Mills ‘28 on the 15-runner team. Maitrejean, who was clocked in 16:14, and Lionnet, whose finishing time was 16:26, are seniors. Carmouche, with a time of 16:25 in the Division I meet, is a junior, and Bonilla, the highest finishing Crusader in the state meet with a 13th place time of 16:04, and Carson Mills (16:30) are sophomores. Another sophomore, Jake Cammarata, joined the list of honorably mentioned.
