Remote Learning Schedule Update: Friday, April 3, 2020

Dear Parents,

After hearing some feedback from our parents, students, faculty, and in consultation with the Academic Council, we have decided to cancel Remote Learning for this Friday, April 3.

One of our faculty members said it best: Our hope in canceling classes for Friday is to provide everyone with the opportunity to "absorb what we've learned, seek clarification, exercise, read, pray, or relax."

Please note the following guidelines for Friday, April 3:

  • Remote Learning will be suspended this Friday, April 3 ONLY. Work assigned on Thursday, April 2 will be due on Friday, April 3 at 8:00 a.m., or whatever each class norm has been.
  • New work will not be assigned to be completed over the weekend. Some teachers do have tests scheduled for Monday, in which case students should prepare accordingly.
  • We strongly suggest that students who are currently missing assignments in classes complete this work and communicate with their teachers about the possibility of submitting missing assignments over the extended weekend. A teacher may allow late work to be submitted either with or without academic penalty. Students should communicate with their teachers about this possibility before Friday.

I know this decision is coming to you "at the last minute", so I apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause. The idea is to offer everyone in our school community an opportunity to catch up on work if we've fallen behind or to simply unplug, step away from your technology, and take advantage of a mental break. Our faculty will have a virtual Faculty Meeting on Thursday afternoon so that they, too, can take advantage of Friday’s opportunity.

Principal Gallagher's Message to Our Students

Additionally, our Guidance Counselors have been working to provide the same open door they’ve always strived to offer your sons. You will receive an email on Friday from Mrs. Joneil Galey, our Guidance Department chair, that will contain a lot of information and resources to help both you and your son as we continue to navigate these uncertain circumstances.

I pray that you are all doing well. As always, please let me know if I can do anything for you.

Your partner in Mission,

Ryan Gallagher ‘00
Principal
