On Wednesday, May 22, 2024, the Brother Martin Class of 2024 celebrated their graduation at the UNO Lakefront Arena in front of proud family, friends, and Partners in Mission who have been with these Crusaders through every step of their high school journey. We are so thankful for these brave young men, and we are thankful for their leadership that will have a lasting impact on our entire community.
You will always be Brother Martin Crusaders and men of excellence who have been educated for life. Crusaders, we look forward to the wonderful things you will do in your lives, great or small. We know that you will use what you have learned in these hallowed halls to help others, to lead, and to guide. As you move into the professional world, remember that the love of God is with you always, as are your friendships forged and memories made at Brother Martin High School.

Brother Martin High School Celebrates 2024 Commencement Exercises
Brother Martin High School held its 55th commencement exercises honoring the Class of 2024 on Wednesday, May 22, 2024, at the UNO Lakefront Arena. The commencement celebrated 155 years of the presence of the Brothers of the Sacred Heart in New Orleans and their mission of educational excellence. President Gregory M. Rando ‘77 and Principal Ryan J. Gallagher ‘00 conferred diplomas to 200 graduates who are the legacy of a long tradition of Catholic education in New Orleans under the auspices of the Brothers of the Sacred Heart. Special academic awards were also presented to graduates for excellence in specific courses, and several graduates were recognized for their service to Brother Martin. Following the distribution of awards and diplomas, Principal Gallagher stated, “Graduates, we now send you out as ambassadors of good news. May you always draw joy and comfort from your belief in God’s love and your efforts to live it and spread it. And may you always know that you have a home at Brother Martin. Ametur Cor Jesu! Ametur Cor Mariae!”
Valedictorians graduating with honors include Jason H. Childs, Colin M. Hill, Dylan G. Rhoton, and Samuel N. Yuratich.
Jason H. Childs, the son of Ms. Roxanne J. Childs and Mr. Jason E. Childs, will attend Howard University with plans to major in electrical engineering. Childs was awarded the Howard University Achievers Scholarship and the Howard University Karsh STEM Scholars Program Scholarship. Childs received a Brother Martin Academic Scholarship, earned a place on the Principal’s Honor Roll, and was an Academic Letterman, and AP Scholar. Childs also earned The Links Incorporated New Orleans Chapter Scholarship. He was a former recipient of the L'Union Francaise Award, a College Board National African American Recognition Program Scholar, and a Gold Key winner of the Scholastic Art and Writing Competition. During his time at Brother Martin, Childs participated in District and State Literary Rally and several organizations including Excalibur National Honor Society for Excellence in Science (president), Mu Alpha Theta (tournament co-chair), National Honor Society (assistant elementary quiz bowl coordinator), Student Ambassadors, and Student Ministers. Childs was also a member of the Brother Martin Junior High Honor Band and the Concert, Pep, Stage, and Marching Bands, serving as Drum major his senior year. In addition, Childs was selected as the Brother Martin High School Student of the Year. Childs lettered in track and field, and he was chosen for the LHSAA Track and Field Academic All-State Team. Prior to the commencement exercises, Childs was recognized as a Golden Crusader at the annual Leadership Celebration. Childs received the James B. Branton ‘74 Award during the commencement exercises.
Colin M. Hill, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Michael E. Hill (Blaine), will attend the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, with plans to major in electrical engineering. Hill was awarded the University of Tennessee Knoxville Volunteer Scholarship. Hill received a Brother Martin Academic Scholarship, earned a place on the Principal’s Honor Roll, and was an Academic Letterman, and AP Scholar with Honor. He was also a Silver Key winner of the Scholastic Art and Writing Competition. During his time at Brother Martin, Hill participated in District and State Literary Rally and several organizations including Academic Games, Excalibur National Honor Society for Excellence in Science (vice president), Mu Alpha Theta (tournament co-chair), National Honor Society, and Ultimate Frisbee. Prior to the commencement exercises, Hill was recognized as a Brother Rene’ Sanctorum, S.C., Crimson Shield for Scholarship recipient at the annual Leadership Celebration. Hill received the Mathematics Award during the commencement exercises.
Dylan G. Rhoton, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Terrel A. Rhoton, Jr. ‘91 (Cari), will attend Harvard University with plans to major in government and data science. Rhoton was awarded the Harvard University Faculty Scholarship. Rhoton received a Brother Martin Academic Scholarship, earned a place on the Principal’s Honor Roll, and was an Academic Letterman, AP Scholar with Honor, and National Merit Finalist. Rhoton earned the Mu Alpha Theta Scholarship and the National Merit Corporation Scholarship; he also scored perfect marks on the ACT. Rhoton was a former recipient of the Sophomore Writing Project Award and a Gold Key winner of the Scholastic Art and Writing Competition. During his time at Brother Martin, Rhoton participated in District and State Literary Rally and several organizations including Excalibur National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta (national student delegate president), Student Ambassadors (president), Student Council (vice president), Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, Student Ministers, Chorus, Dionysians (Drama Club), and Book Club. Additionally, Rhoton was selected as a Louisiana Delegate to the United States Senate Youth Program, served as the Communications Officer of the Louisiana Legislative Youth Advisory Council, and was a candidate for the U.S. Presidential Scholars Program. Prior to the commencement exercises, Rhoton was recognized as a Golden Crusader at the annual Leadership Celebration. Rhoton received the American History Award and the Richard E. Lambert ‘34 SA Outstanding Student Award during the commencement exercises.
Samuel N. Yuratich, son of Mr. and Mrs. Max H. Yuratich ‘93 (Virginia), will attend Wake Forest University with plans to major in psychology. Yuratich was awarded the Wake Forest University 1834 Scholarship and the Wake Forest University Scholarship. Yuratich received a Brother Martin Academic Scholarship, earned a place on the Principal’s Honor Roll, and was an Academic Letterman, AP Scholar with Honor, and National Merit Commended Student. Yuratich was a former recipient of the Harvard Prize Book and the Work Study Student of the Year Award and scholarship. He was also a Gold Key winner of the Scholastic Art and Writing Competition. During his time at Brother Martin, Yuratich participated in District Literary Rally and several organizations including Mu Alpha Theta, National Honor Society (president), Key Club (treasurer), World Culture Club, and Ultimate Frisbee. Prior to the commencement exercises, Yuratich was recognized as a Golden Crusader at the annual Leadership Celebration. Yuratich received the English Award, the World Languages Award, and the
Brother Leo Godin, S.C., Award during the commencement exercises.
