After a 10-0 win over Lakeshore Thursday night, the Crusaders were set to play St. Augustine in a Friday afternoon match up. The Crusaders grabbed an early lead and built on it resulting in a 10-0 victory at Kirsch-Rooney.
Pitching was the story of this game. Crusader pitcher Steven Farris allowed no earned runs,, two hits, walked three and struck out five during his three innings of work.
A wild pitch by St. Augustine, an error, and a two-run double by Jonathan Parker in the first inning supplied the early offense for the Crusaders. The game was decided quickly as Crusaders exerted its will early with nine runs in the first three innings. Brother Martin built upon its lead with five runs in the third, and a clutch sacrifice fly scored Owen Magee to open the scoring in the frame.
On Saturday morning, the Crusaders rolled over Shaw 16-0 at Kirsch-Rooney after a nine-run rally in the first inning. Crusader pitcher Jonathan Ebersole kept Shaw off the scoreboard for all five innings he was on the hill. He pitched a shutout, allowing just three hits while ringing up seven.
The Brother Martin line-up pounded the Shaw pitching, as six hitters combined for nine hits, 12 RBIs and 12 runs scored.
The Crusader sluggers piled on three more runs in the top of the second. Brice Johnston started the inning with a double, scoring Peyton Senner and Jarett Gongora. The Crusaders scored two additional runs in the third inning, one of them being a fielder’s choice scoring Gregory Deichmann, and then followed it up with two more in the fifth.
The Saturday afternoon game vs. Northshore was back-and-forth heading into the fourth, with five lead changes. The Crusaders finally managed to grab the lead after a strong fourth inning. A sacrifice fly by Owen Magee scored William Douglass and gave the Crusaders the lead for good.
The Crusader bats jumped all over Northshore pitching, as six hitters combined for 10 hits, seven RBIs and 10 runs scored.
Andrew Boucvalt got the win for the Crusaders allowing one run over 4 1/3 innings. He struck out four, walked none and surrendered just two hits.
The Crusaders are now 9-0 with seven shutout victories. The squad’s next game is Tuesday against St. Paul’s in Covington.
