Crusaders Make MLK Monday a Day ON, Not Off!

On Monday, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, thirty-five Brother Martin Crusaders joined students from throughout the Archdiocese for a Martin Luther King, Jr. Day "On, Not Off" of Service. The day began in prayerful reflection as students listened to the powerful words of Dr. King and offered up intentions for peace and justice in our community. Archbishop Aymond challenged the students to "be different" in their willingness to defend the dignity of all human life.

The Crusaders then teamed up with Sustaining Our Urban Landscape (SOUL) to help plant over 20 trees in Pontchartrain Park. These tree plantings are part of a revitalization project to recover the natural beauty and environmental sustainability of the park that has been diminished by deforestation and storms. Dane Schindler '07, a consistent volunteer with the organization, guided the Crusaders' efforts on behalf of SOUL. Even on their day off from school, the Crusaders gave it their all and honored the legacy of Dr. King by giving back and serving the greater community.

Volunteers of America

In addition to our Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service, several of our Crusaders made and delivered food baskets to residents of Volunteers of America's "The Terraces on Tulane" senior living center.

We are thankful that our Crusaders continue to exemplify the virtue of charity in giving of themselves and their time in service of those in need. Great work, Crusaders!
