Who’s got spirit? The Crusaders got spirit!
The Brother Martin community gathered together Friday morning in the Robert M. Conlin Gymnasium for the culminating event of Spirit Week. All winter sports programs– wrestling, basketball, and soccer– were recognized for their outstanding effort all season long. Coach Mark Bonis presented Brother Martin football jerseys to Jeremy Singleton ’17 and Bruce Jordan Swilling ’17 to acknowledge their accomplishments of being all-time leaders in rushing and receiving on the gridiron. Then, Robbie Dauterive ’84, head wrestling coach, introduced members of the State wrestling team and senior wrestlers. He then reminded the whole school that next week at approximately the same time, the Crusader wrestling team will be facing some of their toughest opponents at the State Tournament in Shreveport. Coach Chris Biehl introduced the senior members of the Crusader basketball team, and then he reminded the whole student body that there are only two home games left to cheer the ‘Saders. He wants the whole school to show up! Senior soccer captain Gene Baker ‘17 brought out all the senior soccer players and their district championship trophy. He reminded the crowd that their support out on Farley Field was the reason for the District win. Then, he encouraged everyone to continue to support the soccer team on their road to State. The cheerleaders and the basketball players had a special surprise performance that showed all the moves that our b-ball team has. The slam dunk contest pitted the reigning champ– Jonathan Falgoust ’17 against the formidable Drew Benitez ‘17. After three amazing rounds, Jonathan Falgoust kept the winner’s belt! Finally, the annual faculty vs. student basketball game was played and once again, the students dominated once again.
The Student Council is sponsoring a tailgate event after school to continue the celebration before the big basketball game against the Rummel Raiders for 7p.m.
