After suffering their first district loss to St. Augustine last Friday, the Crusaders were in need of a bounce back win. Brother Martin (17-6, 2-1) made a statement in a dominating 73-41 victory over Rummel on Tuesday night.
The Crusaders couldn’t miss from the perimeter as they jumped out to an early lead in the first quarter. Travis Epps came off the bench on fire as he knocked down his first three 3-point attempts. As a team, Brother Martin made four 3-pointers in the quarter to take a 20-9 lead over the Raiders.
By halftime, the Crusaders lead jumped to 40-15 and Epps scoring total grew to 17 on 5-of-6 shooting from the field.
The second half was much of the same as the Crusaders ended the third quarter with a 26-point lead and finished the game with a 32-point advantage, 73-41.
The lock-down Brother Martin defense held Rummel to two field goals in the second quarter and nabbed eight steals in the first half.
Travis Epps lead the Brother Martin attack with 17 points, and Venjie Wallis added eight points, five rebounds, three steals and two blocks.
The Crusaders return to district play on Friday night as they travel to Shaw. Tip-off is set for 7:15 p.m.
