Crusaders Continue to Partner with SBP

IMG_20160610_093743635_HDRBrother Martin once again partnered with the SBP (formerly the St. Bernard Project) in the neighborhoods of Gentilly and New Orleans East, building homes to replace those destroyed by the levee failures during Hurricane Katrina.  In April, the faculty and staff at Brother Martin engaged in a day of service with SBP sponsored by Campus Ministry. During the second week of June, it was the students’ turn to do service work with the SBP.  Ten rising juniors and seniors worked on one of the houses located at 6029 Vermillion Blvd., which the faculty had previously worked on during the year. The students laid and grouted a tile floor in a bathroom, installed molding, cleaned, and painted the interior and exterior of the home.  Students who participated for the whole week gave 40 hours of service. Additionally, students helped to install a fence at a house that the SBP built two years ago on Tulip St. in New Orleans East.

St. Bernard Project’s mission is to shorten the time between disaster and full recovery by ensuring that disaster-impacted citizens and communities recover in a prompt, efficient and predictable manner.

Great job, Crusaders!
