On Friday night, with no time remaining and trailing 48- 49, the Crusaders elected to attempt a two-point conversion to try and win the game. Running Back Bruce Jordan-Swilling ’17, who already had two touchdowns on the night, received the handoff and ran through the right side, but was stopped just short of the goal line by the Bears defense. The situation was eerily similar to last year’s quarterfinal match between the same teams when Brother Martin stuffed now LSU Running Back Derrius Guice on a two-point conversion attempt to preserve the victory.
In his final game as a Crusader, Quarterback Jake Broggi ’16 threw for 503 yards and five touchdowns. Dennis Robertson ’16 led the receiving corps with 172 yards and one touchdown, while Jeremy Singleton ’17 added three touchdowns on 104 yards. Tight End Irv Smith ’16 added 158 yards receiving and had the biggest catch of the night when he hauled in a 22 yard touchdown at the end of regulation and set up the potential game winning two-point conversion try.
Prior to the game, the Brother Martin Alumni Office hosted a tailgate for the faculty members of the Brothers of the Sacred Heart schools. The faculty indulged on jambalaya and other snacks before heading into Tad Gormley Stadium to witness the Crusader Band and the Catholic High Band collaborate for a heartwarming rendition of the Star Spangled Banner.
Thank you to our players, coaches, and fans for your dedication to the Crusader Football Program this season!
