Computer Science Students Code a Variety of Projects

dsc_0682This quarter, all of the the Brother Martin students in the Computer Science department’s courses are heavily involved in stimulating programming assignments. Students in the three courses in session currently—Computer Applications I, Digital Media, and Computer Science—are all learning different programming languages in a variety of ways:

The 8th and 9th graders enrolled in Computer Applications are engaged with graphics programming in the Small BASIC programming language. Students are learning how to manipulate drawn objects on their computer screens to create both digital pictures and animated screensavers.

The freshman Digital Media students are busy building computer games using the Actimator Blockly-based coding website. These students learn the fundamentals of game development by collaborating in a paired programming environment.

The upper-level Computer Science elective challenges both 11th and 12th grade students to create projects that would run on a Windows PC. They must know how to manipulate visual objects, like buttons and checkboxes, and to react to human interaction by mastering the Visual Basic.NET languages.

All of the Computer Science department’s students are challenged to explore their creativity and personal learning with the aid of their fellow students and instructors, Mr. Craig Zeller ‘02 – Department Chair , Bro. Neal Golden ‘57 CJ, and Mr. Aaron Paladino.
