On Friday, October 19, the eighth-grade class experienced their day of reflection, built around the theme “What Does It Mean That God Loves Me?” The following is a reflection on the day from Cameron Baudry, Class of 2023.

The eighth grade Day of Reflection was very inspiring. When we got to St. Stanislaus, a Brothers’ school in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi, we went into the church and heard a speech from Coach Dauterive about his experiences as a teenager and how he realized that God loves him, which was very motivating. Next, my group went to the St. Stanislaus gym and heard stories from teachers about their experience at Brother Martin and how the charism of the Brothers of the Sacred Heart helped them in their lives. This was very powerful because I realized that we could be going through the same experiences or challenges in the next few years of high school. Next, our class went to the cemetery across the street which contains the burial plots of many Brothers including Brother Martin Hernandez, S.C. We learned about different Brothers and prayed quietly to them. This experience helped me grow spiritually closer to God. Afterward, we went back to the church and prayed and thought about the stained glass windows, stations of the cross, and statues each of us found. The last place my group went to was the pier. We answered questions about Father Andre Coindre and reflected on how he stopped to help two orphan girls on the steps of St. Nizier Church in Lyon, France. Hearing the waves in the otherwise quiet surroundings was very peaceful and helped us connect with God. After that, we had lunch and then Mass to finish the Day of Reflection. Our eighth grade Day of Reflection allowed me to learn more about myself. I learned that to be successful in life, I have to love myself and know that God loves me.
