Members of the Brother Martin High School community and friends gathered for Mass and afterward celebrated Brother Ivy LeBlanc, S.C. with the dedication of the Brother Ivy LeBlanc, S.C., Business Center.
Brother Ivy, a Brother of the Sacred Heart since 1967, served in many roles at educational institutions of the Brothers of the Sacred Heart. Much of his work took place at Brother Martin where he was a teacher, Dean of Students, Vice Principal, Principal, and, ultimately, President. He has dedicated his life in servant leadership to the institution that thrives today, taking care of the young people entrusted to the Brothers and their Partners in Mission.
President Greg Rando’ 77 stated, “This man has embraced challenging roles that transcend the classroom and workplace education.” In comparison to our second founder, Bother Polycarp, S.C., Mr. Rando continued, “Both men have realized and acted on the importance not only of ensuring the vitality of their Catholic spirituality but also of the strong legal and financial foundations that allow for all the transformative work we do here on Elysian Fields and at ministry sites throughout our province and the world, to thrive.”
Rev. Monsignor Andrew Taormina ’54 SA presided over Mass, and John Devlin, Director of Schools for the Brothers of the Sacred Heart U.S. Province, reflected that “through his financial acumen paired with his love for our students and our future, Brother Ivy guided this institution.” Brother Ivy thanked the community, reminding them that “it’s not about one of us here at Brother Martin, it’s about every one of us. What we are supposed to be has never been clearer than today. What we are celebrating today is that we took a dream through the last quarter of the 20th century and handed it to John, Ryan, and Greg and all the successors that will follow them.”
Guests made their way through the resource center, viewing photos on the wall of St. Aloysius, Cor Jesu, and Brother Martin High Schools since 1869 before heading to the ribbon cutting and blessing. Then, Barry Hebert ’74 began the dedication, sharing the work that Brother Ivy contributed to the Brothers’ mission of forming young people: “Without the work of Brother Ivy, we would not be the proud and thriving school that we are today.” Rev. Monsignor Taormina 54 SA blessed the door to the newly named Brother Ivy LeBlanc, S.C., Business Center. Guests then visited the updated facilities, the renovation of the Jerome J. Reso ‘55 SA Conference Room, and a display of artwork by Joseph Ivy LeBlanc. Following the dedication and blessing, guests were treated to a reception in the Tom and Gayle Benson Mall presented by Pigeon Catering.
We would like to thank everyone who attended this event as well as Brother Ivy for his leadership and commitment to the mission of the Brothers of the Sacred Heart in forming young people for life.
