"Life's most persistent and urgent question is 'What are you doing for others?'"
— Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
On Monday, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the Brother Martin students and faculty participated in an Archdiocese-wide Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day On, Not Off Day of Service. The day began in prayerful reflection as students listened to powerful words of Dr. King and offered up intentions for peace and justice in our community.
Our Crusaders then teamed up with Sustaining Our Urban Landscape (SOUL) to help plant over 20 trees in Little Woods in New Orleans East. These tree plantings are part of a revitalization project to recover the natural beauty and environmental sustainability of the area that has been diminished by deforestation and storms. Guiding the Crusaders' efforts on behalf of SOUL was Neal Caire '11, a consistent volunteer with the organization. These students gave of their time in honor of the legacy of Dr. King by giving back and serving the greater community.
Members of the Brother Martin Rugby Team and parents also volunteered to mulch trails at City Park in service to our community in honor of Dr. King.
