Mr. Philip J. Pizzolato, a 1937 graduate of St. Aloysius who recently passed away, has generously left Brother Martin High School with a gift of $125,000. With this gift, the Philip J. Pizzolato ‘37 Student Assistance Fund has been created in his name and will be used for the education of financially disadvantaged students as requested by Mr. Pizzolato in his will.
Mr. Pizzolato graduated from Loyola University with a degree in Inorganic Chemistry and joined the Navy in WWII with the Pacific Fleet. During his time with the Navy, he worked on special projects for the Navy Research Center in Virginia for 25 years. Next, he worked for the Atomic Energy Commission at NYU, Chicago University, and Los Alamos. Afterward, he worked for 8 years developing various types of rocket fuels and engine types for the Air Force, taught chemistry at the University of Houston, and worked for Martin Marietta. He retired in 1987.
Through generous donations of our alumni, their families, and friends, we have been able to continue the mission of Brother Martin High School of forming young people through a holistic education that fosters academic excellence in a caring, disciplined community which integrates Catholic tradition and the charism of the Brothers of the Sacred Heart to meet the needs of a changing world.
Membership in the Society of 1869 is offered to all those who share this commitment, who endorse Brother Martin High School’s mission, and who, like those Brothers in 1869 and those who followed, affirm that commitment by means of a planned gift. If you should have any questions about becoming a member of the Society or would like to inform the school, please contact Tommy Mitchell ’79, Development Director, in the Alumni & Development Office at 504-284-6700.
