Andrew Butler '18 Earns 2nd Place in Art Contest

IMG_4670On Saturday, The George Rodrigue Foundation of the Arts (GRFA) hosted a banquet for student finalists who participated in the 2017 George Rodrigue Foundation of the Arts Scholarship Art Contest at the Sheraton New Orleans. George Rodrigue founded this contest in 2009 where high school juniors and seniors from across Louisiana are awarded college scholarships through the individual artwork they each submit. The 2017 theme for the contest, in partnership with the City of New Orleans, was “New Orleans Tricentennial.” The theme was to honor New Orleans’ history and its place in the world. This year, there were over 500 entries in the competition and 16 finalists were chosen to advance to the next level as a finalist. Andrew Butler, an outstanding junior artist at Brother Martin, placed second with his “Fleur De Legacy” honoring the city’s 300th birthday. He received a $1,000 scholarship, $250 in art supplies, and a print of ‘Three Amigos’ by George Rodrigue. Andrew was also given the chance to meet with Wendy Rodrigue, widow of George Rodrigue, who autographed her book The Other Side of Painting.
