Academic Games Sweeps Competition

Throughout the school year the New Orleans Academic Games League hosts competitions in four games: Propaganda, On-Sets, Presidents and Equations. This year, the Senior Division (grades 11 and 12) Academic Games team, consisting of Michael Ballmann, Kevin Branley, Christopher Maheu, Brian Pellerin and Brandon Yrle, swept up titles in every game. In each competition, awards are given to the top three players for their individual scores. Of the possible twelve awards, Brother Martin players took home ten titles. Plus, they were the team champions in every game.

Most recently, the team competed in the game of Equations. Kevin, Chris and Brandon were the only perfect scorers and competed in a playoff match to determine the overall winner. Kevin ended up taking first place. Along with his win in Equations, Kevin was the overall sweepstakes winner, which is determined by combined scores in all four games played, for the second year in a row.

In the Junior division (grades 9 and 10), sophomore Nick Brilli placed second in Equations and freshman Joseph Arrigo was the overall sweepstakes winner.

The senior team, along with Joseph, Nick, Brett Storms and Benjamin Buller—Top 10 Sweepstakes Finisher in Middle Division (grades 7 and 8)—will attend the 47th annual AGLOA National Tournament next month in Wheeling, WV.
