Warde Manuel '86 Appointed as Athletic Director at Michigan

Warde Manuel ‘86 was recently named the 12th athletic director at his alma mater, the University of Michigan, on Friday. Manuel, former athletic director at University Connecticut (UConn) since 2012, helped lead UConn athletics to six national championships including three straight titles in women’s basketball, two in field hockey, and one in men's basketball for the Huskies. Prior to his term at UConn, he spent six years as athletic director at the University of Buffalo.

He is best remembered at Brother Martin as a Golden Crusader, and as a High School All-American defensive tackle in football.  Manuel helped lead the Crusaders to a semifinal appearance in the 1985 Class 4A playoffs under Coach Bob Conlin. In February of 1986, he signed with University of Michigan where he played football under legendary Coach Bo Schembechler. Manuel graduated in 1990 and later worked as an associate athletic director at the university.

Manuel’s first official day on the job will be March 14, 2016.
