Scott Williams ('90) didn't enter the coaching profession right out of college.
- He came to Brother Martin as an 8th grader after attended John Curtis in 6th and 7th following his family's move from California.
- His first year, he played football, basketball, and baseball.
- He stuck with basketball and baseball through his junior year.
- For his senior year, he decided that baseball held the best promise for college. So he told Coach Milton Rohm that he wouldn't return to the hardwood.
He started college at Millsaps in Jackson MS.
- He pitched two seasons for the Majors. As a freshman, he compiled one of the best ERAs in NCAA Division III.
- He spent a year at Loyola before transferring to the Lakefront.
- Scott graduated from UNO in 1995 with a degree in Math Education.
- Although Brother Martin contacted him about a science position, he decided to go into the food and beverage industry.

1988-9 Crusader varsity; Scott Williams is #55.
9/11 caused him to reassess his life's path.
- Scott's father, a vice president for Vestek, an assets management firm, flew to New York September 10, 2001, for the annual business on the 78th floor of the South Tower. Mr. Williams, age 53, perished when the second terrorist plane struck the tower.
- "It put life in perspective," says Scott. "My job wasn't self-gratifying. It didn't make me a better person. At that time, I wanted to make money. When my father died, I took time to analyze my life."
He joined the Brother Martin staff in 2003.
- He taught geometry and coached freshman baseball. "It was good for me and good for those kids. I was able to relate to them what I learned at Brother Martin and in college to get them prepared to take that next step."
- After three years in the classroom, he became Assistant Disciplinarian for four years.
- During this period, he also assumed the position of Assistant Athletic Director to Barry Hebert. "I wanted to have an impact on athletics whether in the dugout or on the administrative side. Barry let me do a lot of things. As the years passed, he gave me more and more responsibility."
- Scott took over as AD for the 2010-11 school year.
How does he assess his first year on the job?
- "I spent a lot of time making sure everything was done right. I'm meticulous. I don't want any surprises. I didn't spend enough time understanding my coaches' needs and critiquing them."
- Does he miss dealing with students directly? "It's tough. I want to spend more time with the coaches and the kids, too. Last year, I sat back and saw how everything worked. This year, I want to take a more proactive stance with the parents and the kids."
- He meets with every team and their parents at the beginning of each season. "They need to know my door's open. Text me, e-mail me, call me on my cell. I have no problem with that."
- Does he get parental complaints about sons who are cut or not starting? "Parents have to be prepared for something they don't want to hear. It was the same in the Discipline Office."
Scott's stepson just became a Crusader 7th-grader.
- His wife was his boss at the food and beverage company. They began dating when he left to work at Brother Martin.
- They have three daughters aged seven, four, and nine months.
