Seven faculty members enjoyed opportunities for overseas travel this summer in solidarity with Brothers of the Sacred Heart worldwide.

  • President John Devlin, principal Greg Rando, assistant principal Justin Fleetwood, and teachers Chris Buse and Michael Speyrer travele d to Zambia to visit and work at two brothers' schools: The Robert Shitima School in Kabwe and the St. Francis Secondary School in Malole. Justin'’s involvement fulfilled one of his obligations in the Coindre Leadership Program, an ACE – alternative charism experience. The group brought mission drive proceeds and all sorts of materials to these two schools in the Brothers of the Sacred Heart Province of Eastern and Southern Africa. During three days in Kabwe and eight in Malole, they interacted with faculty and students, visited and taught classes, met with school leadership teams, and shared their experience of the brothers' charism at Brother Martin.
  • Two faculty members – Ricky Nuesslein and Tom Baier – traveled to Lyons, France, the birthplace of the Brothers of the Sacred Heart, to participate in PLACE – Pilgrimage to Lyons: André Coindre Experience. They were joined by faculty members from the other two United States provinces for an 18-day program learning more about our founder and the early years of the Institute. During the program, they traveled to notable sites in the history of the Institute including some towns where Father Coindre's mission crosses still stand in town squares. The program was directed by Brother Ivy.

Did You Know?

In the 1930s, it was customary at high schools for members of the senior class to put on a play, usually a comedy, shortly before graduation. For example, here is a portion of an Aloysian article dated May 31, 1935.

Before an eager audience impatiently awaiting the rise of the curtain, the Senior class play, "The Whole Town's Talking," began Wednesday night at 8:00 p.m. at the Tulane Theatre. Keeping up with tradition, the play was a hilarious comedy, filled with the most outrageous and ridiculous situations.

Lila Wilson and Sally Otis kept the audience laughing for five minutes at a time, chiefly because of Lila's lisp. The roles were taken off by Maurice Duvic and Montburn Carriere. Jack Smythe had everyone in stitches whenever he entered. He took off the part of Sadie Bloom, the dance-hall girl.

The huge success of the play is attributed to the director, Mr. Robert Ainsworth. Thanks is also given to the Mothers' Club for their cooperation with the dressing of the "ladies."
