The Crusader wrestling team, under the leadership of head coach Robbie Dauterive ’84, will compete in the 2017 LHSAA State Championships this upcoming weekend. The wrestling team is determined to add to their already impressive 17 state championship titles when they take to the mats on Friday and Saturday from CenturyLink Center in Bossier City. The Crusaders go into state tournament having 11 top four seeds, including three top-seeds, four who are seeded second, three third-seeds and a fourth-seed among the 14 weight classes. Daniel Varnado (106), Daniel Croy (113), Luke Cotton (120), Layne Boudreaux (126), Steven Shields (132), Ben Wisniewski (138), Patrick Evans (145), Noah Roux (152), Paul Elmer (160), John Stemke (170), and Mack Brown (220) are the wrestlers seeded in the top four of their respective weight class.
In addition, on Wednesday, February 8, the Brother Martin wrestling team celebrated Mass in the James B. Branton Chapel before leaving for Bossier City where they will be wrestling for their sixth straight state championship. The Mass was celebrated by Father Paul Hart ‘70, who gave an inspiring homily to the wrestling team. Fr. Paul urged the team to carry on despite any and all adversity just as Jesus did on the way to Calvary.
