Test Prep Program Raises Student Scores

Four years ago, Brother Martin began its Scope and Sequence overview of the curriculum. During this process, the school aligned itself and its curriculum material with the ACT College Readiness Standards. Once this was completed, Brother Martin implemented a new Test Preparation program.

The Test Prep program divides students into groups based on their standardized test scores and academic placement. Every Wednesday for the last three years, the students have met with one of their three assigned teachers to review for standardized testing. The first year consisted of reviewing different types of test questions and developing skills and strategies for test taking practices. During its second year, instructors reviewed information collected from data reports after the various standardized tests were completed.  These results were reviewed by class and skill and incorporated into the Test Prep program. This year, the third year, teachers are focusing even more on the data received from the tests taken in April and October and emphasizing best practices, strategies, and college readiness skills.

Brother Martin is also incorporating standardized test results into the regular curriculum through an intentional study of individual student scores and skills, so students can continue to improve. Students will be tested again in May.

Below are results collected by the Guidance Department comparing standardized test scores from previous years.
