On Saturday, January 30, our FIRST Tech Challenge team competed in the first ever Louisiana State FTC Championship at Woodlawn High School. Brother Martin’s “Tech Titans” have spent the past five months constructing and modifying their robot that is specifically designed to complete certain tasks in this season’s game—”FIRST RES-Q”. The state tournament provided a setting to test the team’s robot against robots made by teams from all over the state.
At the state tournament, the “Tech Titans” were selected by a panel of judges for the Motivate Award recognizing their ability to demonstrate respect and Gracious Professionalism toward all competitors and for their ability to articulate individual team member’s contributions to the overall success of the team. In the field competition, the team finished 10th overall.
Since October, the Brother Martin Robotics Team has competed in four different Southeast Louisiana FTC League meets—placing as high as third in one meet. These meets allowed FIRST Tech Challenge teams from the New Orleans and Northshore areas to run their robots and learn from mistakes. In between meets, teams were allowed time to enhance or redesign their robot to better compete in the FIRST RES-Q game.
