The Brother Martin community and guests were invited to the annual St. Joseph’s Day Altar on March 18th -19th in the James B. Branton Chapel. This celebration of St. Joseph offers New Orleans natives and visitors a chance to share food with others and and a way to express gratitude good fortune in their lives. The St. Joseph Altar was covered with an abundance of cookies, cakes, breads and “lucky beans”, which are associated with the relief provided by St. Joseph during a time of famine in Sicily. Tours of the altar were provided by Mrs. Christine Dureau and Mrs. Elvira Iovenetti to Brother Martin faculty and students and guests of the altar.
Brother Martin’s St. Joseph’s Day Altar is sponsored by Campus Ministry under the leadership of Campus Minister Tom Baier, Brother Louis Couvillon, S.C., Brother Carl Bouchereau, S.C. and Cissy Yakelis. Thank you to everyone who helped set up the altar, to all of our cooks and servers, and to all of our sponsors!
Donations to the altar were donated to the Brothers of the Sacred Heart Missions in the U.S. and around the world. In addition, the food from the altar was donated to the Feed the Jesus program at St. Joseph’s Church.
