Dear Brother Martin Community,
It is hard to believe that we are approaching the eighth month of the school year, yet here we are! We have experienced so many successes throughout the year, and the Spring has been no different.
With our spring LHSAA sports and Crusader extracurricular activities in full swing, we wanted to take a moment to bring some issues of sportsmanship to your attention and to ask for your partnership in these areas as we continue to educate your sons for life, forming them to good in everything that we do.
First, outside food and beverage at any Brother Martin event or athletic contest are prohibited.
Second, re-entry at any Brother Martin ticketed event or athletic contest is prohibited.
Third, alcohol is expressly prohibited at any Brother Martin student-centered function, particularly when our students are the focal point of the event and are representing Brother Martin High School.
These have all been long-standing policies at Brother Martin, among all Catholic League schools, and within the Louisiana High School Athletics Association. Additionally, LHSAA member principals approved two by-laws that address unsportsmanlike conduct and defamatory statements. Violations of either of these by-laws by school personnel, student-athletes, or fans include penalties that could result in the suspension of individuals and even entire games and/or seasons.
Since the beginning of the school year, the LHSAA has emphasized the importance of sportsmanship for both players and fans. Unfortunately, there have been a number of teams dismissed from league and playoff appearances or seen their seasons abruptly canceled because of issues that have taken place on the field or in the stands across the state. We communicate this to you to emphasize in a proactive manner our code of conduct as players and fans while attending an athletic event to ensure that we are upholding the standards of Brother Martin High School in the best possible manner.
These experiences are an essential part of the high school experience for all of our partners in Mission – Brother Martin students, faculty & staff, and families. We want to create an enjoyable experience for everyone involved. These experiences are part of our holistic approach to education, and they are formative experiences for our young men. As Brother Jean Sobert, S.C., was so fond of saying, “It’s all about the kids.”
If you have any concerns or questions please do not hesitate to contact us. We look forward to seeing you around campus and at upcoming events.
Your partners in Mission,
