Senior Retreat: A Reflection for Social Media

Reflection written by Tharuka Fernando '20

The Senior Retreat was unlike any retreat experience I've had at Brother Martin for the past five years because we spent the night at Solomon Episcopal Retreat Center. It was nice to get away from the stress and anxiety of senior year with college application deadlines around the corner. On retreat, we were able to relax in nature and one of my favorite parts was to look up at the sky at night and see the millions of bright stars that I don't usually see in the city. Throughout the retreat, we were called to make a life for ourselves and go out and "set the world on fire." With the life lessons I've learned at Brother Martin, I feel prepared to go out into the world and be the difference that makes a difference.

Over the retreat, I got to strengthen my bond with my brothers by just spending time with them that I usually don't get because of the busy school day. As a part of the senior class, we were able to come together and open up about the struggles that would hold us back from making a life for ourselves and you could feel that everything you said would never leave the room because you could trust every single person in the room. The teachers on the retreat also became our mentors by talking about their life experiences so that we could learn and grow from what they've been through. I feel that I am prepared to overcome any obstacle that comes my way and can't wait to see what the future holds for the Class of 2020.
