Dear Parents,
I hope this email finds you well and inching toward some sense of normalcy. We will return to campus for instruction on a regular schedule starting this Monday, September 13.
Please know that we are doing all that we can to make all of the necessary accommodations for those students who will not be able to return to campus right away. If your son will not be able to participate in classes on campus beginning on Monday, he should check Schoology for critical information from his teachers regarding classes beginning Monday morning.
In order for our students to participate in synchronous, remote learning throughout each academic day, your son’s teachers will provide a Schoology Conference or Google Meet link that will grant your son access to each of his classes every day at the time that his class is scheduled. We will operate on a regular, 50 minute schedule every day next week. Teachers of classes with extenuating circumstances that may not lend themselves to synchronous/remote learning, such as PE or some electives, will communicate their expectations via Schoology. All classes will be recorded on either Schoology Conferences or Google Meets in the event that your son will not be able to participate in any particular class synchronously.
Our faculty and staff all realize that we will be missing a number of students who are not yet able to return to school or, in some cases, their homes. So many of us are in similar situations - misplaced or displaced, without homes, and filled with stress and anxiety. Rest assured that we will take care of your sons, doing all that we can in these times of uncertainty.
To that end, next week’s classes will not include any graded tests or quizzes while we all take time to acclimate to whatever our individual situation might be. As you would expect, meaningful instruction and learning will take place with the appropriate rigor and expectations of each particular course. We also realize that many of our students currently do not have reliable WIFI at home, and we are taking all of this into consideration as we assign homework and other class assignments.
Food Services will serve cold and hot lunch options with the start of school, but some of those options may be limited as we work with our vendors while they return to their normal operations. Hot breakfast will also be served the week of September 13, along with most of the usual cereal and breakfast bar items.
We are currently examining the school calendar. A number of events have been postponed, and we will communicate any changes to the calendar as soon as possible. We are also examining the instructional calendar to ensure that we are in compliance with state requirements. It is likely that we will have to adjust the academic calendar, which will affect some school holidays. We will communicate all of this as soon as possible.
All extracurriculars and athletics may resume next week.
Please remember that everyone must wear a face covering on campus.
Finally, if you are in need of any assistance, please email any administrator so that we can work together to assist you and your son. If anyone would like to discuss their current situation, please do not hesitate to contact any administrator.
We continue to pray for those who have been affected by the devastation from Hurricane Ida, and we pray to Our Lady of Prompt Succor to spare us from any further loss of life or property during this hurricane season.
I look forward to seeing each of you soon.
