Plus 50 Reunion is a Success

IMG_0163It was a Homecoming weekend to remember for the Brothers of the Sacred Heart Alumni Association. Plus 50 alumni and their guests were invited to the Homecoming 2017 pre- game tailgate outside of Tad Gormley Stadium on Friday night. Inside the stadium, pre-game introductions and recognitions were announced to athletic lettermen and championship teams.  Prior to kickoff, alumni filled the stadium and stayed ’til the end to watch the Crusaders rise to victory winning against the Holy Cross Tigers, 26-22.

On Saturday night, continuing with the festivities, the annual Plus 50 Mass and Reunion took place at Brother Martin High School.   The evening began with Mass in the James B. Branton Chapel celebrated by the school’s chaplain,  Fr. Paul Hart ’70. Hart welcomed back alumni and their guests to campus while thanking them for their dedication to our rich tradition that still continues today.

“The Plus 50 Reunion is a great event to be with my classmates and friends from Cor Jesu and St. Aloysius. It is also a great Brothers of the Sacred Heart tradition,” said Armand Bertin ’59 CJ.

Then, Director of Alumni Scott Corrente, Sr. ’83 recognized  special guests,  President John Devlin, Brother Neri J. Falgout, S.C.’46 SA, and Cyndi Leithman widow of Ken Leithman ’47 SA, our first Plus 50 Chair who lead the committee for over 10 years.  Mr. Corrente also recognized those classes celebrating five year anniversaries – The St. Aloysius Classes of 1942, 1947, 1952, 1957, and 1962.  Also celebrating their five year anniversaries were the Cor Jesu Classes of 1957 and 1962.  Warren Falgout ’56 SA from Arlington, TX was recognized as the alumnus who traveled the farthest to attend our Plus 50 Reunion.  Herman Prager, Ellis Quiqley, and Keith Wheelahan from the Class of 1942 were recognized as alumni from the earliest class.

A special thanks to Fr. Paul Hart ’70, Vocalist Mrs. Melanie Williams, Loyola School of Music’s Pianist & Choral Director Dr. Meg Frazier, and the members of the Plus 50 Committee; Armand Bertin ’59 CJ, Louis Bravo ’48 SA, Sam Briuglio ’59 SA, Bob Dauterive ’60 CJ,  Emery Dyer ’56 SA, Bill Fulham ’61 CJ,  Bro.
