Freshmen Retreat: Creating a Deeper Relationship with God through Prayer

Earlier this month, the entire freshmen class participated in their annual day of reflection. Using a guiding principle from Partner in Mission-- that our students develop a deeper relationship with God through prayer-- the Campus Ministry team and 9th grade faculty members led the students in small groups. Each small group was organized through a series of varied prayer experiences: contemplative prayer and Eucharistic adoration, prayer as self-care in the time of the pandemic, prayer life testimonials from faculty members, praying the rosary as meditative prayer, self-reflection through letter writing to our future selves, guided meditative prayer, and prayer through visual art. These experiences drew on personal as well as communal prayer experiences, exposing students to the true meaning of "retreat"--leaving our normal routines to have intentional conversations with God.
