Mock Trial Club, formerly Speech & Debate, allows students to participate in rehearsed trials to learn about the legal system. Students are provided with opportunities to learn more about public speaking, elements of debate, and good communication skills. Using these skills, students explore both sides of a hypothetical court case, and they prepare the case for trial. In the second semester, they participate in the Richard N. Ware IV State High School Mock Trial Competition, arguing as lawyers and acting as witnesses in front of working judges. Winners of this competition go on to compete at the national level.
Membership is open to all students.
