This year, to celebrate locally World Youth Day, over three dozen Brother Martin students joined over 2000 other students from around the Archdiocese of New Orleans on Sunday, Oct0ber 27th at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center. Nearly all of the the Brother Martin students attended the day with their parish youth groups and a few attended through the Campus Ministry Office. This year’s theme was Do You Know CPR? Christ. Protector. Redeemer. Seniors Kyle Pecoraro and Brad Giacone were among the five masters of ceremony. The day was filled with live music, workshops, a concert with national Catholic recording artist Jesse Manibusan, and a closing liturgy celebrated by Archbishop Gregory Aymond, CJ ‘67.
“Each year on Palm Sunday, the pope issues a message to the youth of the world, and every few years he holds a special gathering somewhere on the globe to mark a ‘World’ Youth Day. Many years ago he asked the bishops of each country, however, to make sure they celebrated World Youth Day every year, and the bishops of the United States chose late October, specifically the 30th Sunday in Ordinary Time.”
