On Tuesday morning, the Brother Martin community celebrated the Easter Season with Fr. Kyle Dave, Brother Martin Class of 1989 and Pastor of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Belle Chasse. Fr. Kyle gave us all a mandate to become ‘apostles’ this Easter season; therefore, we are all being called to bring Jesus to everyone, but especially to those who we think don’t deserve it. He gave two examples of bringing Jesus into the world: the first one was St. Mother Teresa and her desire, not to save the world, but to save the person in front of her. The second was about a man in the drive-thru at Starbucks who had a large order. The car behind him became very frustrated and began to let his frustrations known very loudly. Once the man in front got his order, the loud gentleman finally gets to the drive-thru, only to find out that the man in front paid for his order. Fr. Kyle used these two stories to show us how to be more Christ-like to others, especially during this Easter Season, but we should also pay particular attention to seeing Christ through our reflection in the mirror.
Participants in the Easter Liturgy were André Rovens ‘17 who read the opening comments. Patrick Willis ‘17 and Nick Klemm ‘17 were the acolytes, and John Oliver ‘17 was the cross bearer. Stephen Corcoran ‘17 read the first reading and Michael Lopez ‘17 read the prayers of the faithful. Adam Lorio ’17, Christian Dudley ’17, and Andrew Ramon ’17 were gift bearers. The band and the choir provided the music that created a more sacred space to celebrate our Liturgy. This was the last school-wide Liturgy for the Class of 2017 and it was very fitting that we were celebrating ‘new life’ as they move on into their ‘new life’ as college students and beyond.
