On Thursday, April 27, the Brother Martin Athletic Department hosted their spring signing ceremony in the Library with faculty, friends, and families. Next year, Mason Bonnaffons ‘17, Paul Boudreaux ‘17, Dominic Brocato ‘17, Steven Shields ‘17, Wondell Smith ‘17, and Roderick Thornton ‘17 are stepping up their game as they move on to the next level in academics and athletics. Mark Wisniewski ‘81, who is the assistant athletic director and head baseball coach, introduced the student- athletes before handing over the platform to head football coach Mark Bonis and head wrestling coach Robbie Dauterive ‘84. Bonis said that “these student- athletes will always be part of the Brother Martin family.” He also urged Paul, Dominic, and Roderick to always have a sense of urgency and purpose during this next chapter in their life. Coach Dauterive then said a few words about Steven being a four- time state wrestling champion and only the second wrestler to receive that honor at Brother Martin. He also acknowledged Steven’s family who demonstrated so much love for him and his siblings. Coach Wisniewski concluded the ceremony with a few words about Mason being a quality person and by wishing him the best in his future career. In addition, the coaches also commented on their various accomplishments at Brother Martin, both on the playing field and in the classroom. Then, they young men enjoyed some celebratory cake at a social that was held for all the families, friends, and coaches.
