On Wednesday, November 1, the Conlin Gymnasium became a sacred space. The Brother Martin family celebrated All Saints’ Day with a Liturgy celebrated by Brother Louis Couvillon, an ordained Brother of the Sacred Heart, and assisted by members of the Brother Martin Drama Club, the Dionysians. Konnor Bordlee ‘17, Christopher Raymond ‘17 and Grant Strohmeyer ‘17 opened the Mass with a riveting dramatic reading about our personal ‘game of thrones’. Each presented an option: to choose the world’s throne of greed, power and revenge, or to choose God’s Throne of humility, service and prayer. We are reminded that All Saints’ Day, a celebration the Solemnity of all Saints, is our baptismal call to holiness. Both the readings and Brother Louis’ homily reminded us that it is through living the Beatitudes that the road to salvation is paved with good works, quiet reflection, and godly behavior. Brother Louis also reminded us that we have the experience of being inspired by someone we know, so we celebrate the people who have gone before us and have inspired us, and have given us the insight of those who have chosen the ‘Throne of God’. All Crusaders should live our lives knowing that no matter who we are or what we have done, we can always choose the ‘Throne of God’. We should thank God for our purpose and strive to be a part of the Communion of Saints.
The Brother Martin Chorus led the school in the Opening Hymn “Ye Watchers and Ye Holy Ones” and the Communion Hymn “Blest Are They.” Ryan O’Rourke ‘17 and Stuart Redfearn ‘18 provided a guitar-led Offertory Song, and the Brother Martin Band played a rousing rendition of “When the Saints Go Marching In” to close this meaningful celebration.
