The Brother Martin school community celebrated our annual Social Justice Liturgy and all of the good works it inspires. Mass was celebrated by Fr. Paul Hart ‘70. Fr. Paul offered us three stories that challenged our thinking of what are acts of social justice, and how we can bring justice to our world. The Gospel reading and the music focused on the Beatitudes and how instructive they can be in helping us to bring more justice to the world. Fr. Paul showed us, with concrete examples, how we can be the “social justice” in our politically charged world.
After Mass concluded, Mrs. Donnamaria Giambelluca, moderator of the Welcoming Diversity Organization, presented the Bro. Colin Dugas and Mrs. Judy Stewart awards for Social Justice. Three seniors– Will Leonard, Chris Webb and Alex Hassinger — were awarded this honor. All three seniors, elected for this award by their fellow classmates, are caring, selfless students who embody the ideals of our Charism and social justice. Then, three members of the Brother Martin Faculty and Staff received the Bro. Collin Dugas award. Mr. Matt Lambert ‘98, Mr. Ryan Gray ‘05 and Mr. Derrick Frey were honored for their unselfish commitment to the betterment of our school. Mr. Gray and Mr. Lambert, both members of the Mathematics Department, tutor and help their students and others in both the classroom and in the Formation Center. Mr. Frey, a member of the Custodial Staff, is selfless in his service to our students, faculty, and staff on a daily basis. Brother Martin is so proud to honor our seniors and Faculty and Staff with these honors. Brother Martin is a place where social justice is practiced and lived.
