Crusaders Calculate in Stoichiometry Lab

IMG_9580Last week, Crusaders in the various chemistry classes participated in a classic chemistry lab. The students were responsible for mixing two solutions, silver nitrate and sodium phosphate, filtering the product, and then stoichiometry calculations to obtain the amount of their product.  When the students did the filtration, they separated the yellow solid (silver phosphate) from the sodium nitrate solution.  This product was then used to make final calculations through stoichiometry. They also learned that stoichiometry is a basic chemistry tool used every day and also known as the ‘math behind the chemistry’.  In stoichiometry, you are able to predict how much of a product you can make knowing the amounts of your reactants or you can figure out how much of the reactants you need in order to produce a desired amount of product.
