On Tuesday, May 14, our Brother Martin community gathered to celebrate our annual Call to Leadership Liturgy with our celebrant and school chaplain, Father Paul Hart ‘70. Our school community is in transition right now: The Class of 2019 is at the end of their high school years; our student body has selected the new officers for Student Council; our new Extraordinary Ministers for Holy Communion were commissioned during the Mass by Fr. Paul; many juniors and sophomores are going through a selection process for Student Ministers; our National Junior Honor Society was inducted today; the changing of the guard for our NJROTC program has already taken place, and changes are occurring in other organizations, as well as in Athletics.
Chandler Bonvillian '21 introduced our liturgy with the reading, “We need each other, and we need someone to provide leadership. The Class of 2020 will bear the responsibility for making this happen. The remaining members of the Brother Martin faith community will assist our seniors and support them in their efforts.”
In today’s Gospel, Jesus speaks of the love that we must have for each other. Jesus says, “love one another as I have loved you.” He stresses this message not just to his disciples, but to all of us. It is through this love that we are called to be servants of God and to our community.
Congratulations to all of our student leaders in their newly-elected or appointed roles for the next school year. We look forward to seeing all of our Brother Martin community ‘answer the call’ for the 2019-2020 school year.
