Crusader Writers Earn Recognition at Competition

artandwritingcircle-e1360420742151This week, four Brother Martin seniors earned recognition from The Scholastic Art and Writing Awards competition for their creative works of fiction. Timothy Fradella ‘14 received the Gold Key award for the Southeast Louisiana Region in the category of flash fiction for his story titled “Bleak Horizons.” All regional Gold Key work is forwarded to the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers for consideration in the national round of competition. National medal winners are announced on March 17th.

Jacob Schaff ’14 was awarded the Silver Key for his short story, “Triage.” Jordan Anderson ’14 earned honorable mentions for two short stories, “Carrying On” and “The Road to California,” and Arthur Duplessis ’14 also received an honorable mention for his short story titled “Two Faces.”

Selections from The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards are published in the National Catalog and The Best Teen Writing, which are distributed to schools and libraries nationwide. Works have also appeared in publications including The Best Young Writers & Artists in America, Scope magazine, Junior Scholastic magazine, Scholastic Art magazine, and New York Times Upfront magazine.

More than $250,000 is awarded annually through the Scholastic Awards program to top winners and their educators. In addition, more than $8 million in scholarships is set aside each year for recipients of the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. Seniors earning National Medals are eligible to receive scholarships through partnerships with esteemed colleges and universities. The Brother Martin community congratulates these students’ efforts and wishes Timothy the best of luck in the national round of competition.
