The Class of 2018, friends, family, and Brother Martin faculty came together for the 2018 Brother Martin Graduation Mass. This solemn event took place at St. Joseph’s Church on Tulane Avenue on Sunday, May 20, 2018. Brother Martin Chaplain, Fr. Paul Hart ‘70 was the Celebrant for this special occasion for the Class of 2018. During his homily, Fr. Paul reminded the seniors of their time at Brother Martin and the important role that they’ve played in his life and to the lives of all of their family members. This was a special year for the Class of 2018 and Fr. Paul as they are the seniors during his first year as Brother Martin Chaplain. After communion, Executive Vice President Greg Rando ’77 provided a reflection in which he challenged the seniors to use their various gifts and services to live up to their potential as graduates of Brother Martin High School. In addition, Mr. Rando reminded the students of Father Coindre’s message to one of the brothers in the 1820s that we all must have ‘courage and confidence’ in our work and to call upon our God-given inner strength to face the difficulties and challenges in our lives.
Following Mr. Rando’s reflection, a commissioning service for the Class of 2018, was led by Principal Ryan Gallagher ’00, with the seniors renewing vows of continuing to live out the mission of Brother Martin as they move on to the next phase of their lives. In conclusion, each senior received a small Brothers of the Sacred Heart escutcheon —a coat of arms—identifying the Brothers of the Sacred Heart and a special Brother Martin rosary.
“To the members of the Class of 2018, thank you! Thank you for your work in the classrooms, on the playing fields, on the stage, and in our chapel, over the years you have walked the halls of Brother Martin. I hope you feel proud that you have left our school a better place than you found it. But please, please remember this: your time physically at 4401 Elysian Fields Avenue may be over, but you are always a Crusader and always have a home with us. When you cross the stage Friday night and receive your diploma, do not leave us for good; take us with you!” – Mr. Greg Rando
Graduation will take place at the UNO Lakefront Arena on Friday, May 25, 2018 at 6 p.m.
